The best way to get a better view of Kukup is by circumnavigating it. This trip offers views of the Straits of Malacca and nearby islands. Along the way, you can stop at the kelong to feed the fish.

The best months for bird watching here are during the migration season from around September to April. During this period, you can take a boat to the northern part of the island to see migratory birds resting here. This activity can also be done year-round. Mangrove species such as the Mangrove Whistler, and Mangrove Blue Flycatcher can be seen from the walkways. You can also take a boat out to the muddy shores to try to spot the Lesser Adjutant, a rare and globally threatened stork that tends to stand upright.

How To Go To Kukup Island National Park, Pontian, Johor

Kukup Island National Park is easily accessible by car from major cities in Johor. It’s about an hour’s drive from Johor Bahru, making it a convenient day trip or weekend getaway. If you come from Johor Bahru or Puteri Harbour, use Pontian – Johor Bahru main road (towards Pontian town). Then go to Kukup (to south). The jetty is located beside Kukup Ferry Terminal and near to Kukup Bus Station. It will only take around 10 to 15 minutes from jetty to the island.
